Obituary

Arthur W. Tupper, 91, a lifelong Maynard resident, died at home with his family by his side on Saturday, August 20, 2016. He was the beloved husband for 48 years of the late H. Priscilla (Swanson) Tupper. Born in Acton on August 3, 1925, he was the son of the late Arthur and Emma (Bayeur) Tupper. During his youth, he attended Acton Public Schools and Maynard High School. During World War II, Mr. Tupper was a Private First Class in the United States Army. During his service, he landed on Omaha Beach on June 6, 1944 (D-Day), and ended up in Germany where he was a Guard for General Eisenhower. He was subsequently decorated with a Purple Heart and the Bronze Star. Prior to his retirement in 1970, he was employed as the Service and Parts Manager at the Dodge dealership on Great Road in Maynard, and at Seminara Motors in Watertown. He was a life member of the American Legion Post 235 in Maynard, the VFW Post 1027 of Hudson, Disabled American Veterans (DAV) in Marlborough, the Society of the Purple Heart, and the Society of the 1st Infantry Division. He also held memberships with the Harvard, MA Sportsman Club, the National Rifle Association, and the Gun Owner's Action League. Survivors include his daughters, Susan O'Neal and her husband Charles of Vassalboro, ME, and Dawn Sherman and her husband Kenneth of Maynard, nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and his sister, Aldea Rock of New Bedford. He was also the father of the late David Arthur Tupper. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center, are on Tuesday, August 23rd from 4 to 7 pm. A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, August 24th at 11 am in Glenwood Cemetery, Parker Street, Maynard, where representatives of the United States Army will recognize Mr. Tupper's honorable service by presenting military honors. Contributions in his memory may be made to the Disabled American Veterans, Chapter 82, 255 Main Street (Walker Building), Room 110, Marlborough, MA 01752. Arrangements are under the care of the Dee Funeral Home of Concord.
