Arthur W. Berry, 91, of Littleton, formerly of Concord, died Thursday December 15, 2011 in Concord. He was the beloved husband of 37 years of the late Harriet (Robus) Berry who died in September 2005. Born in Concord on November 6, 1920 he was the son of the late Arthur W. and Nellie (Harmon) Berry. He attended Concord schools , was a 1939 graduate of Concord High School and a 1947 graduate of Hart Trade School in Boston. During World War II, he served with the U.S. Army in the North Africa and Italy campaigns. He received two bronze battle stars for his meritorious service. For many years he owned and operated his own construction company before becoming one of the founding originators of Spacemakers Inc. of Canton. He also was employed as a supervisor for special projects for the Acton Public Schools, retiring in 2001. A Master Mason for 64 years, he was a member of Corinthian Lodge AF + AM in Concord, Scottish Rite in Boston and Shriners in Wilmington. Survivors include three daughters, Barbara Ann Berry O'Dowd of Littleton, Phyllis H. Custance of Boxborough and Diane H. Smith of St. James City, Florida, a son David Arthur Berry of Lexington, a sister Priscilla R. Strate of Boxborough,9 grandchildren,17 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren. He was also the brother of the late Helen E. Engebretson of Waltham, Merle J. Taylor of Brownsville, TX and John H. Berry of Concord and grandfather of the late James D. Nelms. Cemetery:
Interment with military honors will follow in the family burial plot in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, Concord.
Visitation:
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Tuesday December 20th from 3 to 7 pm.
Service:
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday December 21st at 10 am in the Farrar Chapel of the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. Officiating will be Rev. Dr. John C. Lombard, Senior Minister of Trinitarian Congregational Church in Concord.
