In the early morning hours of February 25th, 2019 our beautiful and beloved mother, nana, sister, aunt and friend, Arlene (Ackerly) Hewett, peacefully left this world.
She left behind many who love and cherish her, especially her children; Michael Hewett and his wife Becky of Lincoln, CA; Patrick Hewett and his wife Stephanie, of Bellingham, MA; Brian Hewett and Carolyn Gibbons, of Bedford, MA; Pamela Clay-Storm and her husband Rick, of North Conway, NH; her pride and joys, her grandsons; Sean Hewett, Brendan Hewett, Oliver and Ethan Clay-Storm, her sisters; Jean Shea, Barbara Tierney, Claire Gagnon, Patricia Tarallo, and brothers Jack and Gus Ackerly. Along with her many nieces and nephews and their families. Her kindness and unending empathy was felt by those who were blessed to know her. She will be missed by her many dear friends and neighbors with whom she loved to share stories, laughs and life's adventures.
Arlene was born on November 1st, 1935 to John Ackerly and Mary (Lawson) Ackerly in Allston, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters Dorothy and Ruthie. She attended Brighton High School where she excelled, especially in spelling bees. She frequented the Boston Skaters club where she enjoyed to speed skate and would share her love of skating with her children to come. She began her working life at Raytheon and after marrying moved to Libertyville, Illinois where her 3 sons were born. Returning to Boston to be closer to her family she settled in Framingham, MA and welcomed a daughter to her life. She spent 45 years on Maymont Drive raising her family, celebrating holidays, enjoying neighborhood gatherings in the backyard, and creating many memories. She courageously reinvented herself when her children were grown and earned a Professional Certification and returned to the workforce at Universal Underwriter's where she proudly committed herself for the next 20 years.
After retiring, she fulfilled a lifelong dream to live by the ocean and settled in her beautiful new home in Kennebunk, Maine. She loved her time by the sea, some of her favorite times were spent with her young family at Hampton Beach or sitting in the late afternoon with her sister Jean at York Beach. She enjoyed the simple pleasures and loved to read or to enjoy a movie with a friend.
She lived her life with dignity, compassion and kindness and her heart was always full of love for anyone who had the good fortune to know her. We were blessed to have her in our lives and her presence will be both felt and missed deeply forever. We will remember our mom, nana, sister, aunt and friend for her strength to face life's challenges with dignity and her wisdom to recognize life's rewards. Thank you mom for all the love you gave us. We miss you.
