Obituary

Anthony J. Sorrenti, 94, of Concord, died Thursday, October 13, 2016 at his Concord home. He was the beloved husband of Shirley (Kroll) Hatch-Sorrenti and the late Maria L. (Colombo) Sorrenti. Born on November 5, 1921, he was the son of the late Salvatore and Bertha (Zanghi) Sorrenti. He attended Concord public schools and as a youth worked on the Sorrenti Family Farm on Thoreau Street in Concord. He trained as a pilot at West Point, New York and later was commissioned as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Air Force. He served in the Pacific Theatre of Operations and was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict. Following his military service, Mr. Sorrenti continued employment for the United States Government in Management of Air Craft Maintenance at Hanscom Air Field in Bedford. A longtime Concord resident, he built a greenhouse on his property to enjoy his passion for flower gardening. He had a zest for life and enjoyed golfing, oil painting, sketching and spending time with his family and friends. In addition to his wife, Shirley, he is survived by his daughter, Marie L. Holt of Marlborough, his granddaughters, Kristen Donovan and her husband Mark and Carol Holt and her husband James Talbott, all of Stow; his great grandchildren, Kathryn, John, Emma, Lauryn, Caroline and Lily; his sisters, Bertha Sorrenti and Virginia Hamilton, both of Concord; his wife's children, Howard and Frederic Hatch and their families and many nieces and nephews. He was also the brother of the late Joseph, James, Salvatore, Jr., Mary and Margaret Sorrenti, Dorothy Sowders and Josephine Gangloff and father-in-law of the late John M. Holt. Funeral will be held on Wednesday, October 19th from the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER at 9:30 am followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord at 10:30 am. Burial will be in St. Bridget's Cemetery, Maynard where officers of the U. S. Air Force will present military honors. Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be Tuesday, October 18th from 4 to 8 pm. Concord's town flag will fly at half-staff on Wednesday in recognition of Mr. Sorrenti's service to his country in the U. S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean Conflict.
