Anthony J. Skomski, 87, of Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan, passed away after suffering a stroke at Hearthstone in Marlborough, Massachusetts. He was the beloved husband for 60 years of Betty R. (Lasher) Skomski.
Born in Hamtramck, Michigan on June 6, 1923, he was the son of the late Joseph and Helen (Laboj) Skomski. He attended Hamtramck public schools and graduated from Hamtramck High School in 1941. He received a bachelors degree from Michigan State University where he majored in Forestry.
During World War II and the Korean Conflict, he served as a Second Lieutenant in the U. S. Army and in the first Special Service Force also known as the Devils Brigade. He was stationed in Tunisia, Italy, France, and the Rhineland. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart Medal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with six bronze stars, World War II Victory Medal and the Bronze Arrowhead. During the Korean Conflict, he served as a tank officer at Camp Atterbury, Indiana.
For over forty years, prior to his retirement in 2009, Mr. Skomski worked as an accountant and business consultant. He was the owner and operator of Anthony Business Service in Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan.
Active in local politics, he was a member of the Republican Club and served as a Precinct Delegate in Grosse Pointe Farms, where he was a resident for 25 years.
In addition to his wife Betty, he is survived by his daughter, Sara Elizabeth Honig and her husband Peter of Concord, 2 grandchildren, Elizabeth Anne Honig and Andrew Scott Honig, both of Concord. He was also the father of the late Cynthia Anne Skomski.
Burial in Glen Eden Lutheran Memorial Garden in Detroit, Michigan on Saturday January 29th.
