Obituary

Anthony Hill, 93, of Acton, formerly of Maynard, died Tuesday, August 9th at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband for 66 years of June (Hood) Hill. Born in Maynard on April 11, 1923 he was the son of the late Arefi and Tekla (Kravchuk) Hill. He attended Maynard public schools and graduated from Maynard High School in 1941. In 1950, he received a Bachelor degree in Electrical Engineering from Northeastern University on the GI bill. During World War II, he served in the U. S. Army in the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign as a Radio Transmitter Technician. For thirty-five years, prior to his retirement in 1985, he worked as an electrical Engineer at AT&T. On November 22, 1963, he and his co-workers were able to halt the breakdown of phone lines in Massachusetts due to heavy use of lines because of the tragic event of the day. An avid woodcarver, he specialized in life sized, realistic birds. He was a talented carpenter and built an addition to his home. An Acton resident since 1952 he previously lived in Winthrop. He was a member of the Corinthian Lodge in Concord. In addition his wife, June, he is survived by his children, Steven Hill of Gardner, Dr. Susan Williams and her husband Robert of Beaver Creek, OH, Peter Hill and his wife Cathy of Townsend, Greg Hill of Acton, his sister, Helena Hill of Maynard, 4 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. He was also the father of the late Linda June Hill and brother of the late Anna Hill. A graveside service will be held on Friday, August 12th at 10 am in Mt. Hope Cemetery, 166 Central Street, Acton. Officers of the U. S. Army will present military honors in recognition of Mr. Hill's service to his country during World War II.
