Obituary

Annie Harriet (Ginn) Fredkin, 91, of Carlisle, died at Emerson Hospital in Concord on August 17, 2023. She was the devoted wife for 69 years of Norman J. Fredkin.

Annie was born in Varnville, South Carolina in 1932. She attended Wade Hampton High School, where she played piano and a mean game of basketball in addition to her studies. She was awarded a scholarship to continue her studies in piano and voice upon graduation, but chose to attend nursing school instead, graduating from Columbia School of Nursing, Columbia, S.C. in 1952.

During Annie's last year of college she met a dashing Air Force pilot, Norman Fredkin, from N. Hollywood, CA and the two fell in love, despite their small town, big city differences. Once married, Annie led the life of a military wife, living throughout the U.S. and Europe, while raising her three children, Rachelle, Jay and Rozanne. In 1970, Norman retired from the military and the family moved from Colorado to Carlisle, Massachusetts. Annie's low-country charm and penchant for fun won over many a New Englander.

During her years in Carlisle, she worked as an OR/ER nurse at Emerson Hospital in Concord, and later as an Industrial Nurse at Raytheon Service Company in Waltham.

Annie was bright and beautiful, athletic and creative, with a great sense of style and boundless energy. She was an amazing cook who loved to entertain family and friends, and an avid gardener. She enjoyed making things beautiful, refinishing and painting furniture, arranging flowers or crafting centerpieces for local events. She loved and cared for her family and friends and all of her pets, birds and woodland animals, filling the yard with flowers and bird feeders, and even befriending a snake, or two.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her children, Rachelle Fredkin Cowdrey, Jay Fredkin and his wife Joanne, and Rozanne Fredkin, as well as her five grandchildren Sarah, Jake, Alex, Eric and Harley. Annie is predeceased by her parents, Jacob Polk Ginn and Ella Belle Ginn, her siblings, Patsy and J.P. Jr. "Bubba", and her son-in-law, Michael Cowdrey.

Family and friends are invited to celebrate Annie's life during visiting hours at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Tuesday, August 29th from 5 to 7 pm. Her memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 30th at 11 am in First Religious Society, 27 School Street, Carlisle, followed by a reception. Private burial will precede the service at Green Cemetery, Carlisle.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Friends of the Council on Aging of Carlisle or Mass Audubon Society .

Arrangements are entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
