Annette J. (Benson) Petersen, founder of Wee Forest Folk, passed away in the comfort of her home on Monument Street in Concord on June 9, 2022, just a few days shy of her 103rd birthday. She was the wife of the late Richard E. Petersen, who died in 2017. Annette was born on June 13, 1919. She was raised in Manhattan and was a graduate of Julia Richman High School. After WWII, she met her husband and they moved to his family's farm in Concord, MA. While raising three children, she constantly created art and eventually, at the age of 50, she started a business called Wee Forest Folk. Over the years she produced hundreds of miniature sculptures which she sold all over the country, gaining a devoted following. Eventually her son and daughter joined the business and it became a family enterprise spanning nearly 50 years. Annette had a great love of New England and the outdoors. She enjoyed being on the farm, particularly harvesting fresh fruits and vegetables from the garden. She also loved canoeing on the Concord River and going for long walks in the woods around her home. She is survived by her children, James Petersen and his wife Ana Petersen of Warwick, RI, William Petersen and his wife Jennifer Petersen of Concord, MA; Donna Robbins and her husband John Robbins of Concord, MA; her grandchildren Andrew Petersen of MI, Virginia Robbins of Rockland, ME; Bonnie Evans of Carlisle, MA; Annie Petersen of Brookline, VT; and her great grandson, Rex Evans. She will be dearly missed by her friends and family. Family and friends are invited to gather for a funeral procession forming at Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center on Thursday, June 23rd at 12:45 pm, followed by a graveside service beginning at 1 pm at Sleepy Hollow Cemetery in Concord. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her memory may be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children , PO Box 947765, Atlanta, GA 30394.
