Ann Strecker Brownell

August 9, 1939 — April 14, 2026

Ann Strecker Brownell, a longtime resident of Concord and the beloved wife of the late David Brownell for 60 years, passed away peacefully at home on April 14, 2026.

Born on August 9, 1939, Ann grew up in Marietta, Ohio, and graduated proudly from Ohio University. She met Dave, the love of her life, while he was attending Marietta College, and they married in 1961. A year later, the Air Force brought them to New England, where they quickly fell in love with Concord and built a warm, welcoming home filled with laughter and joy.

Ann worked for many years at The Concord Toy Shop. In 1995, she and Dave realized their dream of opening their own store, Belmont Toys in Belmont, Massachusetts, which they operated together until retiring in 2008.

Ann and Dave shared a life rich in travel, friendship, and family. They treasured time at the home they built—affectionately known as “The Land”—on Newfound Lake with the Sminell gang. Known as “Granny Annie,” she loved being surrounded by family and friends, enjoying a martini, playing cards or dominoes, and sharing laughter late into the night. She will be remembered for her devotion to loved ones, her generous spirit, warm hugs, and infectious laughter.

Ann is survived by her daughter, Susan (George Kulp), and their children, Griffin and Jo; her son, Gage Brownell (Emily), and his daughter, Casey Wallace; her sister, Sue (Jay Leiendecker); and her sister-in-law, Linda (Jeff Marini). She was predeceased by her husband, Dave, and her brother, Dave Strecker. She will also be deeply missed by extended family, friends, and her caregivers, Christine and Bridgett, whose compassion brought comfort in her final months.

Ann will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband and their dear Concord “Forever Friends” at what they fondly called “Cocktail Point” in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery—a place where, no doubt, the laughter will continue.

A private burial and celebration of life will be held later.

Donations in Ann’s memory may be made to 51 Walden (PO Box 251, Concord, MA 01742) in support of the arts, or to Deaconess Abundant Life Communities (80 Deaconess Road, Concord, MA 01742) in gratitude for the compassionate care she received.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
