Angelo D. "Andy" Velardocchia, 89, a resident of Carlisle since 1968, died on Friday, August 17, 2018 at Emerson Hospital in Concord, following an extended illness. He was the loving husband for 63 years of Ann (Gallinaro) Velardocchia.
Born on April 11, 1929, he was the son of the late Francesco and Antoinette (Assortato) Velardocchia. During adolescence, Andy was a paperboy in his hometown of Medford. He enjoyed horseback riding, and graduated from Medford High School in 1947. Andy continued his studies at Northeastern University, earning an undergraduate degree in Mechanical Engineering and a master's degree in Business Administration. Early on in his engineering career, he was employed by Ling Electronics in Winchester. At BTU International Inc. in Billerica, he held the position of Vice President of Manufacturing until his retirement.
He was a man of unwavering faith as a longtime communicant at St. Irene Church in Carlisle, where he served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector. He and Ann have enjoyed participating in numerous church functions over the years. Andy was the ultimate handyman, and took pride in meticulously handling renovations and additions on his Carlisle home. He was a talented gardener, and loved tending to the land he shared on Foss Farm in Carlisle. Andy cherished time spent on Cape Cod, was an avid runner, and a lifelong, devoted Red Sox fan.
In addition to his wife, he leaves behind two children, David Velardocchia and his wife Cathie of Bolton and Dianne Velardocchia of Concord, a brother, Daniel Velardocchia and his wife Connie of North Andover, one sister, Mary Doyle and her husband Paul of Wakefield, and several loving nieces and nephews. He was recently predeceased by his brother, Cosmo Velardocchia, and his late wife Florence of Stoneham.
Family and friends will gather for visiting hours on Tuesday, August 21st from 5 to 8 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. His funeral will be held on Wednesday, August 22nd at 9:45 am from the Dee Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 11 am in St. Irene Roman Catholic Church, 181 East Street, Carlisle. Burial will follow at Green Cemetery in Carlisle.
