Angelina (Anessi) Raposa, 82, of Arlington, VT, formerly of Concord, MA, surrounded by her loving family, died Thursday, December 17, 2015 at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY, where she was recovering from a recent brain injury. She was the beloved wife for 61 years of Frank L. Raposa.
Born in Washington, DC on November 20, 1933, Mrs. Raposa was the daughter of the late Joseph and Maddalena (Del Vitto) Anessi. She grew up in Silver Spring, Maryland, attended Saint Michael's school and graduated in 1951 from the Academy of the Holy Name in Silver Spring. In 1954, she received the Graduate Nurse degree from the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore, Maryland. She then received her Registered Nurse (RN) certificate from the state of Maryland, and had started her nursing career working at Mercy Hospital.
Over the years, Mrs. Raposa was awarded the RN certificate by several states in the Northeast, where she worked at various hospitals in RI, CT and MA. From 1967 until 1988, she worked as an RN at Emerson Hospital in Concord, MA, as a general duty nurse in the medical-surgical units. Mrs. Raposa later worked as a Special Duty Nurse in private care prior to her retirement in 1989.
An avid quilter and talented fabric artist, Mrs. Raposa was a member of several Quilting Guilds in Florida, Rhode Island and Cape Cod, where in addition to her own personal work helped prepare quilts for the needy. Her fabric artwork included composing country scenes, marine and animal life, and religious themes using scrap fabric. In addition to her talent as a quilter, Mrs. Raposa also was an avid photographer who loved to photograph nature. A lover of the arts she often attended local theater and concerts in FL, RI, MA, CA and VT.
For over fifty years, Mrs. Raposa was a sponsor of the Christian Children's Fund as a dedication to her late son Thomas.
A resident of Arlington, VT since 2013, she lived in Concord, MA from 1967 to 1990.
In addition to her husband, Frank, she is survived by her three children, Elizabeth Raposa of Brattleboro, VT; Joseph Raposa of San Diego, CA; James Raposa of Arlington, VT; and, her brother, Thomas Anessi of Silver Spring MD. She also is survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren. She also was the mother of the late Thomas Raposa.
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center will be held from 9:00 AM to 10:45 AM on Monday, December 28th.
A funeral Mass will follow at 11:00 AM in Holy Family Parish at St. Bernard's Church, Monument Square, Concord, Massachusetts.
Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord , MA.
