Alphonse Peter Antonitis, age 83, of Concord, formerly of Norwood, died Tuesday, October 12, 2010 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. He was the beloved husband of 52 years to Victoria T. (Bartucca) Antonitis.
Born in Norwood on October 26, 1926 he was the son of the late Peter and Amelia (Jinks) Antonitis. He attended Norwood public schools, graduated in 1944 from Norwood High School and later from Wentworth Institute in Boston where he studied mechanical drawing.
During World War II, he served in the United States Army and was stationed in the Philippines.
Prior to his retirement in the 1980s, Mr. Antonitis worked as a draftsman at The Foxboro Company. Previously, in the 1960s and 70s, he was employed at Raytheon Corporation.
A longtime resident and native of Norwood, he moved to Concord in 2001 where he enjoyed being near and spending time with his family.
In addition to his wife, Victoria, he is survived by 5 children, Al Antonitis and his wife Rosemary of Concord, Patricia Woods and her husband Glenn of South Carolina, Anthony Antonitis and his wife Karna of North Attleboro, Teresa Postler and her husband Michael of Concord, and Robert Antonitis and his wife Maureen of Walpole. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren, Michael, Ryan, Jake, Philip, James, Jacob, Victoria, Zachary, and Madison. He is also survived by 2 sisters, Aldona Jackson and Adele Picard, both of Norwood, and 2 brothers, Edmund Antonitis of North Attleboro, and Peter Antonitis of Norwood. He was the brother of the late Frank Antonitis.
Funeral will be held on Saturday, October 16thfrom the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, CONCORD CENTER at 9 AM followed by a funeral Mass in Holy Family Parish, 27 Monument Square, Concord Center at 10 AM.
Burial will be in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Concord, where officers of the U. S. Army will present military honors.
Visiting hours at the Dee Funeral Home will be held on Friday, October 15th from 4 to 8 PM.
