Albert C. Magurn, of Concord, died peacefully at home, on Tuesday, October 31, 2017.
He was the beloved partner of Leslie Luppold and was survived by sisters Martha Ivey, Mary Giles, Louise Smersh, and many nieces and nephews. He was also the adoring brother of the late Francis, George, Walter, and sisters Barbara Keizer, Esther Capozzoli.
A lifelong resident of Concord, Albert graduated from Concord High School where he was active in track and field and was a long-time record holder of the quarter mile. He was a member of the National Amateur Athletic Association, and attended Boston University.
He was proud to follow his three older brothers into military service. Albert joined the Massachusetts National Guard in November 1951, and entered active service in the US Army during the Korean conflict, serving until 1956. He returned to the National Guard in September 1956 where he served until his retirement as a Master Sergeant in March 1983.
In addition to his military career, Albert practiced as a real estate broker in Concord and the surrounding area. Throughout his life Albert was deeply involved in the civic life of Concord. He coached the Concord-Carlisle High School Rifle Team, was an associate member of the Concord Independent Battery, served on the Bicentennial Committee, was a reserve member of the Concord Police, participated in the Honor Guard for President Ford's visit to Concord and was selected as the Grand Marshall for the Patriots Day Parade. He was also a Life member of the Concord Lodge of Elks.
Gifted with a remarkable ability to recall names, dates, numbers and events, as well as a deep intellectual curiosity, Albert developed an encyclopedic knowledge of Concord history. This knowledge was also a reflection of pride as a citizen of Concord ran deep and drove him to engage in community activities great and small.
Relatives and friends will gather for visiting hours on Friday, November 3rd from 4 to 7 pm in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. His funeral will be on Saturday, November 4th at 9 am from the Dee Funeral Home, followed by a funeral Mass at 10 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Concord, where officers of the United States Army will recognize his honorable service by presenting military honors and officers and members of the Concord Independent Battery will fire a salute.
Concord's Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Saturday, November 4th in honor of Mr. Magurn's military service to his country during the Korean Conflict.
