Albert H. Horst of Westford, MA passed away on Friday, June 1st 2018. He was 79 years old.
He was the son of the late Herman F. Horst and Alberta R. (Swingle) Horst. Born and raised in Honesdale, PA on a dairy farm, Albert diligently worked his way through college and received his degree from Penn State University in electrical engineering. He subsequently worked at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and Haystack Observatory for over 40 years.
He is survived by his wife Elaine (Runyon) Horst, (they would have celebrated 58 years of marriage this August.) He is also survived by his daughter Michelle (Horst) Harris, her husband Robert Harris of Westford, MA and a son Albert J. Horst, also of Westford, MA. He was the cherished grandfather of Alicia R. Harris of Mansfield, MA and a grandson Randall Harris and his wife Colleen Harris, of Columbia, South Carolina.
He also leaves behind a dear sister Loretta J. (Horst) Howe of Rossville, GA, a brother Vernon Horst and his wife Bonnie of Ware Shoals, North Carolina. Al also leaves behind numerous beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his infant sister Lavonne, his uncle Carl Horst, brother-in-law William Eugene Howe and a beloved cousin Reva Lamberton.
In his life he loved the outdoors: he enjoyed hiking in the White Mountains, cross-country skiing, and gardening. During retirement, Al enjoyed maintaining his perennial flower garden. He played chess, was an avid opera and classical music enthusiast, and beekeeper. People came from far and wide for his organic, natural honey. Al also organized family reunions and enjoyed researching genealogy.
Private funeral services will be held at the convenience of the family.
