CONCORD – Agnes J. (Cuddy) Waldron Johnson, 92, of Concord, formerly of Royalston, died Friday, October 18, 2013 at her Concord home. She was the beloved wife of the late Carl Herbert Johnson who died in 2004. Born in Dedham on November 23, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Ellen (Delay) Cuddy. Agnes lived her childhood in Boston. She attended Roslindale public schools and graduated from Roslindale High School in 1938. After her marriage to Albert Leo Waldron and the birth of her two girls, she moved out to the countryside 40 miles west of Boston, to Medfield and Millis. She married Carl H. Johnson in 1952, and lived in Medfield until 1964. During those 12 years they built The Garden Shop, a retail store where they sold gardening tools, seeds and other products, and sold and serviced lawn equipment. The couple then moved to West Rindge NH, where they built and operated a restaurant. In 1979 they moved to Royalston MA, where they created a family farm and tended a variety of animals, planted vegetables, and operated a sugar mill and a saw mill. After 12 years in Royalston, the Johnsons then moved Lynchburg VA and later Red Oak VA, where they resided until a move to Colchester CT in 2001; they lived there until his death in 2004. Agnes then moved in with granddaughter April Prewitt and her family in Concord, where she was deeply loved and cherished, spending her time watching great-grandchildren play soccer, baseball, and lacrosse, and enjoying many visits from friends and neighbors. Known locally as "Nanny," she was an avid reader of history and biographies, a champion of animals and the environment, and a lifelong Red Sox fan. Survivors include two daughters, Joy Waldron of New Mexico and Agnes Waldron, 3 grandchildren, April Prewitt of Concord, Logan Roots of Austin, TX and Ellen McBride of Sacramento, CA, 6 great grandchildren, Will and Logan Prewitt, Lindsay and Michael Roots, and Carter and Joy McBride. She was also the sister of the late Jimmy, Helen, Harry, Kay, and Leo.
