Anita Jane (Gray) Murphy, 89, of Concord, passed away at Robbins Brook Assisted Living in Acton on January 19, 2022. She was the wife of the late Richard T. Murphy who died in 2009. They were married in 1971 in Norfolk, England.
Born in Whiston, Yorkshire, England on October 20, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Colin and Delia Gray. After graduating from Rotherham High School in 1951, she trained as a Nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children in London. Jane loved to travel and throughout much of 1961 to 1963, Jane traveled extensively around the world in a Mini with her friend Jeanne. Her destinations along the way included Europe, India, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
In London, she was employed as an Educational Services Representative for IBM, and was one of the first female managers for the company in the United Kingdom. She also worked for eight years as a Systems Analyst for First National Bank of Boston, and for twelve years at Wang Laboratories in Lowell as a Marketing Consultant. Jane retired in 1992.
She was a member of the Concord Piecemakers Quilt Guild. Jane also enjoyed golfing, particularly at Westminster Country Club over the years.
Jane was an active member of the Concord Council on Aging enjoying the many friends she met through coffee and conversation, yoga, Tai Chi and quilting.
She leaves behind her sister, Sally Richardson of Switzerland, and her nieces, Jennifer Phillips, Emma Richardson and nephews, Richard Gray, James Richardson and Andrew Gray.
Family and friends are invited to attend Jane's Funeral Mass on Friday, January 28th at 10 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Private burial will follow at St. Bernard's Cemetery in Concord.
