Obituary for Clarence E. Cook

Clarence E. Cook, of Concord, the beloved husband for 74 years of Natalie (Merenda) Cook, died peacefully at Rivercrest Wellness & Rehab Center on Saturday, June 1, 2019. He was 95.

Born in Sheldon, Missouri on February 15, 1924, he was the son of the late Francis and Mary (Elston) Cook. He was raised in Bushnell, South Dakota, and joined the U.S. Navy at the beginning of World War II. Mr. Cook served on a naval ship at Normandy on D-Day, and supported the troops at Iwo Jima, where he survived a kamikaze attack.

He married his soul mate, Natalie, in 1944. The newlywed couple moved to Malden, before settling in Everett for nearly forty years. For sixteen years, they happily enjoyed their retirement while residing in Lake Worth, Florida, before moving to Newbury Court in Concord, MA in 2013.

Mr. Cook learned his trade of auto body mechanics while serving in the Navy, which led to his career as a longtime Auto Body Manager at the Cadillac Dealership in Newton.

He was an avid Boston Red Sox fan, and a longtime season ticket holder for the New England Patriots. He also loved bowling, watching golf, cowboy music, and western movies.

In addition to his wife, he leaved behind his devoted daughter, Janice Micarelli and her husband Robert of Carlisle, his daughter-in-law, Deborah Waldman of FL, three granddaughters, Jennifer Webb, Allison Sokoloff, and Lindsay Bennett, his great grandchildren, Logan, Paul, and Ava, two siblings, Charles Cook and Vivian Kicksee, and many nieces and nephews. He was the father of the late Gary Paul Cook and brother to the late Lyle, Louella, Ruby, and Orville.

Family and friends will gather for a period of visitation on Thursday, June 6th from 9 to 10:15 am in the Dee Funeral Home, 27 Bedford Street, Concord Center. His funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am in Holy Family Parish, Monument Square, Concord Center. Burial with military honors will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.

Concord’s Town Flag will fly at half-staff on Thursday, June 6th in recognition of Mr. Cook’s honorable service to his country during World War II.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Association, 3 Speen Street, Suite 250, Framingham, MA 01701 (www.cancer.org).

Arrangements are under the care of Dee Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Concord.
